The Iraqi government imposed sanctions on the Damascus-based Syrian Air and Cham Wing companies after accusing them of founding terrorism, Iraqi sources revealed on November 3.
The sources leaked an image of order by the Iraqi Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Office, in which the two Syrian companies are accused of “providing financial and logistic support for terrorist organizations.” The order was reportedly issued on October 30.

The Damascus government and the two Syrian companies have never commented on the Iraqi sanctions, likely because the step has never been executed. A fast look at the aviation tracking website Flightradar24.com shows that Syria Air and Cham Wings are still operating freely in Iraq, despite that the Iraqi order says that the sanctions should begin on October 31.

Back in 2011 and 2012 many Arab countries imposed strict sanctions on the Damascus government amid the conflict in Syria. However, these countries, some of which are close allies of the U.S. like Qatar and the UAE, never committed to these sanctions.
The new Iraqi sanctions are clearly nothing but a fake measure that is aimed at pleasing the U.S. administration, that appears to be out of touch with reality.
