Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on October 19 that anyone who knows “how and when Israel will attack Iran” should be held accountable.
“Anybody with knowledge or understanding of ‘how and when Israel was going to attack Iran’, and/or providing the means and backing for such folly, should logically be held accountable for any possible causality,” Araqchi wrote on the X social network, previously known as X.
Araqchi remarks were apparently a direct response to United States President Joe Biden who said a day earlier at the end of his visit to Berlin that he had an understanding of how and when Israel was going to respond to the October 1 Iranian missile attack.
Pressed by reporters during a visit to Germany, Biden declined to share any details regarding Israel’s planned response to the attack, though his remarks appeared to mark the first time the U.S. indicated it has reached an understanding with Israel on the nature of the retaliation.
Earlier in the week, Hebrew media reported that the Israeli leadership has decided on the targets it could potentially attack in Iran.
Israeli Energy minister Eli Cohen said on October 18 Israel was “committed to preventing the Iranians from acquiring nuclear weapons, and therefore, all options are on the table, including attacking nuclear facilities”.
Cohen made the remarks in an interview with Israeli news website Walla News three days after a CNN report said Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, had assured the U.S. that any retaliatory strike on Iran would be confined to military targets.
And while recent reports from American media suggest that the U.S. will not be taking part in any Israeli attack on Iran, Washington has already shown support by deploying a THAAD anti-missile system along with some 100 troops to operate it to Israel.
Iran has already warned that it would respond to any Israeli attack with full force, thus the Middle East appears to be closer than ever to an all-out war.
