On December 19, the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy received military aircraft, swimmer delivery vehicles and a destroyer which had been modernized.

The equipment was handed over to Iranian naval forces during a ceremony at Iran’s southern port city of Bandar Abbas. The ceremony was attended by Deputy Chief of Iranian Army for Coordination Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Shahram Irani and other senior military figures.

The modernized aircrafts included a Sikorsky SH-3D Sea King anti-submarine warfare helicopter and a turboprop Fokker F27 Friendship aircraft.

Iranian Navy forces also received a modernized British Hovercraft Corporation BH.7 medium size hovercraft and a Alvand-class frigate that was upgraded with new engines.

According to Iran’s Navy Industries First Captain Siamak Pourkazzazi, the new engines installed on Alvand destroyer enjoy sophisticated safety and steering systems. They will enable the warship to be sent on long maritime missions.

Four locally-made al-Sabehat-15 swimmer delivery vehicles were also handed over to Iranian Navy forces after being repaired and equipped with electro-optical systems.

Iran has been working hard to develop the capabilities of its naval forces in order to protect its interests in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Omar.

Around two weeks ago, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy received 110 locally-made speedboats, each armed with heavy machine guns, unguided multiple rocket launchers, short-rang anti-ship guided missiles or torpedoes.
