On August 22, 2019, on the Day of the National Defense Industry, Iran unveiled the advanced long-range air defence system (ADS) Bavar 373. The name of the ADS in Farsi means “Symbol of Faith”.

Hassan Rouhani claimed that the latest air defense system surpasses the Russian S-300 Favorit complex and is close in capabilities to the S-400 Triumph, which is supplied to the Russian army and is in demand abroad.

Tehran announced the start of the development of its own long-range anti-aircraft system in 2010. A year later, Iranian engineers created the first prototype. The Bavar-373 was developed by Iran after Russia’s refusal to export the S-300 air defense system within the UN Security Council’s sanctions.

The system created by Iranian developers uses several radars to detect up to 300 targets simultaneously, track 60 of them and strike 6 objects. It is able to work despite interference of various types.

On 2022, Iranian Air Defence means include the following long-range systems: 10 S-200 Angara (RS-SA-5 Gammon); 32 S-300PMU2 (RS-SA-20 Gargoyle); Bavar-373.
