Iran’s security forces have arrested the “main perpetrators” of a drone attack on a military industrial complex in the central city of Isfahan, state media reported on February 10.
Citing a joint statement by the Intelligence Ministry and the intelligence arm of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the state media said that the involvement of Israel’s “mercenaries” in the attack has been “proven.”
“The main perpetrators of the unsuccessful attempt to sabotage a Defence Ministry industrial center in Isfahan…, have been identified and arrested,” the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency said. “So far, the involvement of mercenaries of the …Zionist regime [Israel] in that act has been proven.”
Isfahan complex was attacked with three “small drones” on January 28. One of the drones was downed by the complex’s air defense fire, while the other two were caught in its defensive traps and exploded. The attack caused minor damage to the complex’s roof.
Some reports said that the complex is a production facility for Shahed-136 suicide drones, which were allegedly supplied to Russia for use in Ukraine operation. However, other reports alleged that the complex was hosting ballistic missiles, which are usually supplied to Iran’s allies in the Middle East.
“Due to the ongoing interrogations of the accused who are in custody, additional information will be published at the appropriate time,” said the joint statement released by the Intelligence Ministry and the IRGC.
Iran first accused Israel of orchestrating the unsuccessful attack in a complaint letter sent to the United Nations Security Council earlier on in February.
Usually, the IRGC retaliates to any covert or overt attacks on Iran territory. Any Iranian response to the attack on Isfahan complex could trigger a limited military confrontation with Israel, and even the United States.
