Iran Releases Footage Of Large-Scale Missile Attack On Israel

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has released video footage of the October 1 large-scale missile attack on Israel.

The attack, codenamed “Operation True Promise 2,” was carried out in response to the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of the Hamas Movement, in Tehran last July, and the recent assassinations of Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah and Iranian General Abbas Nilforoushan in the Lebanese capital of Beirut.

Between 181-200 ballistic missiles were launched during the attack, including a number of Fattah-1 hypersonic medium-range missiles.

The missiles targeted the headquarters of the Mossad spy agency, Nevatim Air Base, Hatzerim Air Base, key radar facilities and military camps near the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced right after the attack that it managed to intercept a “large number” of the incoming Iranian missiles with help from the United States. It was also reported that Israel received help from the Jordanian military.

In a statement released the following day, the IDF admitted that some Iranian missiles hit air bases, but said that there were no aircraft or major infrastructure damaged

The impacts damaged office buildings and other maintenance areas in the bases that do not impact the functioning of the Israeli Air Force (IAF), according to the military.

No IAF aircraft were damaged in the attack and all of the missile impacts in Israeli air bases are deemed by the IDF as “ineffective,” meaning that no harm was caused to the continuous operations of the IAF. The military also said that no damage was caused to fighter jets, drones, other aircraft, munitions and critical infrastructure.

This was Iran’s second ever direct attack against Israel. Roughly the number of missiles was used in the first attack, which took place over the night of April 13 and 14.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said after the attack that Tehran had made “a big mistake” and “will pay for it.” Hebrew media reported that Israel will likely attack oil facilities in Iran.

From its side, Iran warned that any strike by Israel will be met with an even stronger attack with reports of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei ordering retaliatory strikes on Israeli infrastructure. Tehran and its allies also warned the U.S. and its allies in the region of aiding any Israeli attack on its territory.
