Iran has deployed a fleet of warships to the Gulf of Aden, following US cruise missile strikes on targets in Yemen that allegedly belonging to the Houthi alliance.
The Iranian Navy deployed warships for a mission that includes entering the area off Yemen’s southern coast, Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said on Wednesday.
“The fleet will provide security to sea ways for Iranian vessels and protect Iran’s interests on the high seas,” Press TV cited Sayyari. “The 34th Fleet is comprised of the Bushehr logistic vessel and Alborz destroyer, and will conduct a three-month mission.”
Sayyari denied claims the naval grouping has been deployed to intervene in the Yemeni conflict. Nonetheless, it’s clear that the move is a ‘signal’ for the US to avoid further miltiary strikes on targets in Yemen.
