On May 24, an Israeli soldier and a civilian were stabbed in east Jerusalem. The attack took place at the Givat ha-Tahmoshet tram stop in Jerusalem, near the central Israeli police headquarters and not far from Sheikh Jarah. The terrorist was killed on the spot by a police officer. The incident was claimed to be a terrorist attack.
“Around 1:30 p.m., an assailant arrived at the light rail station, pulled out a knife and used it to injure two people there. Officers who were on the scene responded quickly, shooting the assailant and neutralizing him,” police said, without specifying if this meant the man had been killed or wounded.
Video on social media appeared to show the suspect lying motionless on the ground.
“The soldier received medical treatment at the scene and was evacuated to a hospital for further medical treatment,” the Israeli military said in a statement.
The injured were hospitalized. The condition of one of the wounded is assessed as serious, the second was slightly injured.
