The Armed Forces of Ukraine continue futile attempts to break through Russian border defense in the Kursk region for the third day in a row. On the morning of May 7th, Ukrainian forces launched yet another failed assault on the village of Novy Put.
The attack, which began around 7am local time, involved a mechanized assault group consisting of five armored vehicles, including an IMR engineering vehicle, two M113 armored personnel carriers, a Bradley BMP, and a Kozak armored vehicle.
The Ukrainian column moved from the border village of Pavlovka in Sumy region but was immediately met with fierce resistance. A Kozak armored vehicle struck a mine before being finished off by Russian FPV drones. Shortly after, an IMR sent to clear the path was also destroyed in precision drone strikes.
Despite repeated attempts, Ukrainian forces failed to advance beyond the initial obstacles. Russian troops, well-prepared with layered defenses including minefields and anti-tank barriers, continue eliminating the attacking vehicles. Footage from the battlefield shows at least three destroyed armored vehicles, including a Bradley BMP, adding to the growing graveyard of Ukrainian hardware near the border.
This marks the third consecutive day of Ukrainian assaults in the Novy Put-Tyotkino sector. Over the past 48 hours, Kyiv has lost about two dozen vehicles along with significant infantry casualties. Yet, Ukrainian commanders continue throwing reserves into the fight, mirroring their failed tactics from last year’s border battles in Belgorod Oblast.
Same Tactics, Same Results
Ukrainian forces are repeating last year’s flawed strategy, attempting to breach fortified positions with little regard for losses. They keep sending troops into the same kill zones, ignoring the futility of their attacks. Russian defenses are designed to funnel them into minefields and drone kill zones, and they keep walking right into the trap.
While Kyiv seeks to portray these assaults as a threat to Russian territory, the reality is starkly different. Ukrainian units have yet to gain a foothold on Russian soil, and their advances are consistently repelled. The attacks appear aimed more at Western media narratives than actual battlefield success.
With no breakthroughs achieved and mounting losses, Ukraine’s border assaults near Novy Put and Tyotkino serve little purpose beyond political posturing. Russian forces remain firmly in control, systematically dismantling each attack with minimal losses. As long as Kyiv persists with these reckless assaults, the only result will be more destroyed equipment and dead soldiers.
