The video of the Ukrainian attack on Russian Askold small missile ship of the 22800 Karakurt project in the Kerch shipyard was shared online. Footage showed three SCALP-EG (Storm Shadow) missiles hitting the ship and the area nearby.
The photo reportedly showing the damage was also shared online. According to the footage, the damage was heavy but not fatal for the ship. The main hull of the ship, i.e. the hull of the ship below deck level, did not suffer any heavy damage. However, the ship’s deckhouse sustained significant damage on the port side. The aft part on the left side was also affected. The recovery works can be predicted to take from 6 to 12 months depending on the extent of damage to the engines, gearboxes and shafts in the aft section.
There are no casualties reported.
The ship was tested until November 2023 and was not yet part of the Black Sea Fleet.
