A Belarusian radical nationalist who was planning to carry out a terrorist attack in Russia was gunned down after opening fire on officers of the Federal Security Service (FSB), the security agency said on March 7.

The suspected Ukrainian agent, who was not named by the FSB, was on an international wanted list. He was a member of the so-called Katus Kalinovsky Regiment, a unit of far-right fighters that wants to topple the government in Minsk. The unit was created by the Kiev regime more than two years ago to incorporate a force of Belarusian right-wing radicals allied with like-minded Ukrainian fighters.

According to a report published by the United States-funded Radio Freedom last year, the unit has at least some 300 numbers.

In its statement, the FSB said that the suspect collected intelligence on transport infrastructure and officials of the northern region of Karelia while in Russia. The agency took action against the suspect after learning that he had obtained a firearm and the components necessary to make an improvised explosive device (IED), which he intended to use in a terrorist attack.

According to video footage released by the agency, the suspect resisted arrest but was quickly was gunned down by security officers.

“During the arrest, the criminal opened fire from a firearm at special services officers and was neutralized during the clash,” the FSB said.

The agency said that the suspect assembled the IDF using a British-made explosive and an American-made detonator. He was also armed with a Makarov handgun.

The Kiev regime has for long cooperated with radical nationalists inside and outside Ukraine to destabilize Russia by orchestrating terrorist attacks on its territory.
