On July 28, a series of explosions thundered in the city of Kharkiv. The targets of Russian strikes were Ukrainian Scala and ATCR-33S radar stations. They were deployed at the local airfield. As a result of the strikes, one of the systems was destroyed, another one was heavily damaged.
The results of the successful Russian strikes were first reported immediately after the strikes. They were soon confirmed by the footage. The Russian Ministry of Defense officially confirmed Ukrainian losses in its daily briefing.
The airfield was reportedly attacked by Russian Kh-35 missiles launched by the Su-34 fighter-bomber of the Russian Aerospace Forces.
The attack was coordinated by Russian reconnaissance UAV. The war-torn Kharkiv region is full of air defense systems deployed throughout the region, including at the strategically important facilities like the targeted airfield. However, no air defense forces detected Russian drone and prevented it from coordinating the strikes and filming the results of the attack.
The successful Russian attack resulted in heavy damage to the Ukrainian military and their NATO partners. The ongoing devastating strikes on Ukrainian airfields throughout the country heavily complicate operations of the Ukrainian Air Force and leave no chance to secure the deployment of Western F-16 in Ukraine.
