On May 22, Russian forces launched a series of strikes with drones and missiles on Ukrainian military facilities in the rear regions. During the day, explosions thundered in several cities, including Dnipro (Dnepropetrovsk) in the east of the country.
Footage from Russian reconnaissance UAV confirmed the successful results of the strike in Dnipro. The attack targeted the local Aviatorskoe airbase that hosted different Ukrainian aircraft. The local residents confirmed that the black smoke was raising from the airbase as a result of the attack.
The airfield was struck by Russian Iskander-M missile reportedly with cluster munition. The attack was coordinated by Orlan-10 reconnaissance UAV.
The analysis of the footage confirmed that the missile struck the parking lot of the disabled Yak-40 and the MiG-29 of the Ukrainian Air Force. The fire seen on the video confirmed the explosion of the fuel or ammunition of the MiG-29 fighter.
The depletion of Ukrainian air defense allows the Russian military to facilitate its strikes in the Ukrainian rear, including far from the frontlines. Russian reconnaissance UAVs face no obstacles coordinating the precision strikes on the strategically important facilities.
