January 6 marked the fifth day of riots in Kazakhstan. The situation in the largest city of the country, Almaty, turned into chaos on January 5. As a result of violent clashes between the armed rioters and security forces, the Kazakh military entered the city.

On the morning of January 6th, the rioters were partly encircled in the city center by the military. By the evening, the central Republic square was protected from criminal gangs, the Interior Ministry told local media.

However, the clashes continued throughout the city.

The “peaceful protesters” used captured servicemen as human shields. On the following video, the man behind the camera coordinates the crowd and shouts to push the soldiers forward.

Mass looting continue. Thousands of shops were robbed, including gun stores:

The aggressive crowd blocked several hospital sin the city and attacked ambulance vehicles on the streets.

On the following video, a woman can be heard crying, shouting not to attack the ambulance.

On January 6, the rioters captured Kok-Tobe TV tower in Alma-Ata.

As a result of the ongoing insecurity in the city, night operation of security forces in the center of Almaty continues.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Blinken, in a conversation with the Kazakh Foreign Minister, confirmed Washington’s full support for constitutional institutions. Is it a sign of a coming stabilization of the situation in the country?
