While the US is preparing to pull its remaining troops out from Afghanistan, it continues to expand its military presence in Syria’s northeastern region.

On August 27, a large supply convoy of the US-led coalition entered northeastern Syria coming from the Iraqi Kurdistan Region.

The convoy consisted of 50 trucks carrying logistic supplies, military equipment, building materials, ammunition and armored vehicles for the coalition and its proxy, the Syrian Democratic Forces.

According to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the convoy headed to a base occupied by the US-led coalition near the town of Tell Beydar in the northern countryside of al-Hasakah. The coalition may be planning to expand the base.

Last month, Syrian news sources revealed plans by the US-led coalition to expand a base located near the town of al-Shaddadi in the southern countryside of al-Hasakah.

Despite the official denial, the US-led coalition has been boosting its presence in northeastern Syria since the start of this year.

In a recent interview with the ABC News on the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan, US President Joe Biden claimed that the U.S. does not “have military in Syria”. Nevertheless, a recent report by the CNN confirms that at least 900 US troops are still present in the country’s northeastern region.
