More than 350 fighters and commanders of ISIS have surrendered to the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the middle Euphrates River Valley, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported on February 27.
Several local news outlets released videos of the terrorists, most of whom appeared to be old or suffering from critical injures. Some of them were identified as Iraqi, Saudi and Russian citizens.
“Many are still inside [ISIS stronghold] … They want to fight … They want to die,” an injured Saudi terrorist told a local journalist in one of the videos.
Several previous reports claimed that the number of remaining ISIS fighters in the Euphrates Valley is no higher than 260. Apparently these claims were false.
The terrorist group is still in control of about a 600m2 strip of land north of the town of al-Baghuz al-Fawqani. ISIS fighters are using thousands of civilians are human shields. This has forced the US-led coalition and its proxies to pause their military operation against ISIS.
