On April 7, the official representative of the DPR People’s Militia claimed that the major battles in the central region of the city of Mariupol almost ended. As a result, DPR forces could reach civilians, who have been blockaded in these districts for more than a month.
More and more civilians are evacuated by DPR, Russian soldiers from Mariupol. People were hiding in basements, with no food, water, gas or electricity. Those who managed to escape from Mariupol or survived in recently secured districts welcome Russian servicemen and confirm that a lot of them were deliberately shelled by Azov snipers and artillery.
Speaking to the DPR journalists, they show their houses destroyed, shelters where they had to survive the fierce street fighting, and address President of Ukraine Zelenskiy:
Woman 1:
“So many people suffered, so many houses. Where is it all going to be now? Blood… Now when I get near my home, I have tears. I just don’t know, I come close to my house… You see, I used to always come home from work and say: “Thanks God I’m home!” It’s home, it’s a roof over your head. I had everything. Couldn’t they really have found an agreement? Oh, I don’t want to say anything for our government, nothing. That is politics, so let them sort it out for themselves, but they could’ve found an agreement. People find agreements, they do, by all means. You see, you cannot let people down (like that). How is it?”
Woman 2:
Do it… Don’t you have enough space, enough fields, where to do such? They got the permission. They would have been given everything, those Azovtsy (Militants of the Azov battalion n.d.t.). Because of this now… I have an impression that they kill them but they still spread like those little dragons. I reckon that America influenced strongly such an outcome, which we…. They wanted to (join) America, NATO… It could have been possible to avoid all this. And they could have evacuated the people. As our mayor (said): “Store water and food for three days”, these three days have already turned into the second month. It could have all been avoided, all.
To Zelenskiy? Well, I would wish him to be here, to stay here, and that his children would eat soil. Together with food. Just like we are doing now. Not where he is, somewhere in Poland with his wife. Why we voted for him, simply because there was only Poroshenko and Zelenskiy. Poroshenko had already been (president). We didn’t have a choice. You know, electing the same again? We elected a clown. And now we are having fun.
Girl: My teddy bear!
Press: How do you sleep? Dressed, don’t you?
Woman: Yes, we take our dressing gown off and that is how we sleep. With three blankets on (each). Over there the children sleep, husband, Tanja with her husband. My granddaughter and I (sleep) here. That’s how we live.
