The Libyan National Army (LNA) has been developing its military operation against militants along the borders with Sudan and Chad. The operation is ongoing in cooperation with authorities of these states and is aimed at cracking down on militant groups operating in the cross-border area.
Earlier, in the framework of the operation to expel foreign forces and terrorists from southern Libya, the LNA secured the key oil fields of el-Sharara and el-Feel. Together they produce close to 400,000 barrels per day. It’s important that the LNA involved local forces (including those guarding the oil fields) into own units. Therefore, the advance was rapid and successful.
At the same time, the LNA has expanded its diplomatic efforts in order to strengthen its position in the region and move forward toward a full control of the country. The US-led block, which openly supports the Tripoly-based National Salvation Government, is not happy with the growth of an alternative force. Mainstream media outlest are even speculating that the LNA has achieved its recent gains thanks to the help from “Russian mercenaries”.
