On December 25, the Houthis launched a Zelzal 2 ballistic missile at positions of the Saudi-led forces in the Yemeni province of Sana’a. According to pro-Houthi sources, the missile struck its target in the province’s Nihm district.
The Iranian state-run TV network Press TV reported that “scores of Saudi-backed militiamen loyal to former Yemeni president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, were killed and injured after Yemeni army forces backed by allied fighters from the Popular Committees launched the domestically-produced missile at their position.”
On December 21, the Houthis reportedly launched a ballistic missile at the Yemeni city of Ma’rib. The Saudi-led coalition claimed that it downed the missile. On December 19, Yemeni forces announced that they had launched a ballistic missile at the Saudi capital of Riyadh. The Saudi military said that that it intercepted the missile. The Houthis claimed that their missile hit the Al Yamama Royal Palace.
The Houthis increased the number of missile launches at Saudi targets in Yemen and in Saudi Arabia in November and December after the Saudi-led forces launched their advance against Yemeni forces in the western and central parts of Yemen.
