The Houthis announced in the late hours of August 9 that their missile force had launched a Badir-1P precision-guided artillery rocket at a command and control center of Saudi-backed forces south of the Saudi province of Najran.

A source in the missile force told the al-Masirah TV that rocket struck the command and control center, killing and injuring dozens of Saudi-backed fighters.

“The strike came after a careful intelligence operation, where the battles on the border [between Yemen and Saudi Arabia] were being commanded from these rooms [in the targeted center],” the Yemeni channel quoted the source as saying.

The Badir-1P, which was revealed last year, is an INS\GPS guided version of the Badir-1 solid fuel artillery rocket. Experts believe that the Badir-1 family is derived from the Iranian-made Fajir-5 rocket.

There was no immediate comment by the Saudi-led coalition on the Houthis’ claims. This usually indicates that the attack was successful.

Earlier, the Houthis held the Saudi-led coalition responsible for the assassination of their leader’s younger brother. However, it remains unclear if the rocket strike was a response to the assassination.
