On March 15, the Houthis continued to advance in the district of Sirwah in the central Yemeni province of Ma’rib. Several positions of the Saudi-led coalition in the valley of Rabi’a fell into the hands of the Yemeni group.
During the attacks, Houthi fighters destroyed at least two vehicles of the coalition with anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs). The Houthis also killed many Saudi-backed fighters with sniper and heavy machine fire.
The Houthis launched their attack in Sirwah a day earlier. Due to their heavy fire power, especially the extensive use of ATGMs, coalition forces were not able to resist and withdraw from most of the positions on the frontlines.
The remarkable success of Sirwah attack will likely encourage the Houthis to develop the attack further. In the upcoming days, the Yemeni group could expand its control in many others parts of Ma’rib, mainly near the capital of Sanaa.
