On August 24, the Houthis attacked on several positions of the Saudi-led coalition and its Yemeni proxies in the town of al-Jah on the western coast of Yemen, according to the Yemeni al-Masirah TV. As a result of the attack, the Houthis captured a HQ of the coalition and the main market in the town.
A military source told al-Masirah that Houthi fighters killed several Saudi-backed fighters as well as destroyed an armored vehicle and a pickup truck of the Saudi-led coalition during the clashes in al-Jah. The Houthis also captured several mortar cannons and heavy machine guns.
Saudi-led coalition warplanes carried out a series of airstrikes on the positions captured by the Houthis during the attack. However, the coalition airstrikes were affectless.
The attack is likely an attempt by the Houthis to distract the Saudi-led coalition attention from the advance towards the coastal city of al-Hudaydah, which is located 85km northwest of al-Jah.
