The Houthis captured several positions from the Saudi-led coalition and its proxies in the district of Nihm, northwest of the Yemeni capital of Sanaa, during a recent attack, the al-Masirah TV reported on February 23.

“The attack was focused on the fronts of Harib Nihm, al-Qarn and al-Dbuah … It ended with the capture of several positions of the mercenaries,” a military source told Yemeni channel.

In the course of the attack, the Houthis killed and injured more than 30 Saudi-backed fighters. The Yemeni group also seized loads of weapons and ammunition, which had been left behind by coalition troops.

The Saudi-led coalition stepped up its offensive operations in Nihm following the UN-sponsored ceasefire agreement in northern Yemen. According to the available information, the coalition’s main goal is to reach the Yemeni capital, which is controlled by the Houthis.

The UN-sponsored ceasefire agreement could be extended to cover Nihm and several other key districts in northern and central Yemen during the next round of peace talks. This would be a major achievement for the Houthis, who have been holding onto their positions around Sanaa for more than three years.
