The Houthis (Ansar Allah) in Yemen announced on March 30 that they had carried out three attacks against the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman and other warships of the United States Navy in the Red Sea over the past 24 hours.

In a statement, the group’s military spokesman, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, said that the strike group was targeted with cruise missiles and suicide drones.

“The [Yemeni] Armed Forces salute its heroic Mujahideen across all its ranks … as they perform their religious, humanitarian, and moral duty in defense of a free and independent Yemen and in support of the oppressed Palestinian people,” the spokesman said.

“The Armed Forces affirm that, relying on God, they will continue to develop their defensive operations and confront escalation with escalation … they will not retreat from supporting the oppressed Palestinian people until the aggression against Gaza stops and the siege is lifted,” he added.

It is unclear if any of the attacks was successful. The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), which is responsible for American military operations in the Middle East, does not usually provide details on such matters.

CENTCOM resumed strikes against Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen on March 15 on orders from U.S. President Donald Trump, who said that the large-scale operation was launched in response to the group’s renewed attacks on shipping in the Red Sea.

Overnight, Al-Masirah TV, which is run by the Houthis, reported more U.S. strikes on Yemen. According to the news channel, three strikes hit the mountainous region of Jabal an Nabi Shu’ayb close to the capital, Sanaa. Nine other strikes hit the northern province of Sadaa, the heartland of the Houthis, targeting al-Salem District, the eastern outskirts of Saada city, and al-Asayed area in Kitaf District. No casualties were reported.

The U.S. large-scale operation has so far claimed the lives of some 57 people, including commanders of the Houthis and civilians.

Despite taking some losses, the Houthis remain unfettered as evident by their latest attacks. This could push the U.S. to escalate even further.
