Houthis Announce Missile And Drone Attack On Four Targets In Israel

In a new escalation, the Houthis announced on June 1 that they had attacked four targets in Israel with a ballistic missile and three suicide drones

The “hypersonic” ballistic missile targeted Ben Gurion Airport in central Israel, Houthi military spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Saree said in a statement, adding that the drones were launched at three “vital targets” in the cities of Tel Aviv, Ashdod and Eilat, in the center and south of the country.

“The Yemeni Armed Forces, after successfully imposing a partial blockade on air traffic at Ben Gurion Airport, are working, with God’s help, to impose a complete ban on air traffic at the aforementioned airport during the coming period. The remaining airlines that have not yet complied with the ban should take this into consideration to preserve the safety of their aircraft and customers,” the spokesman warned.

“Our operations, with trust and reliance on God, will not cease until the aggression against our steadfast brothers in the Gaza Strip stops and the siege on them is lifted,” he added.

The missile attack set off sirens shortly across central Israel, the Jerusalem area and several West Bank settlements, sending millions to bomb shelters.

Later, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced that the missile was successfully intercepted by air defenses. No casualties or damage were reported.

There was no comment from the IDF with regards to the three drones the Houthis said  they launched at Israel. Hebrew media didn’t report any additional interceptions or any suspicious blasts in the center or the south of the country.

The Houthis have launched 43 ballistic missiles and at least 10 suicide drones at Israel since March 18, when the IDF renewed its operations in Gaza.

Last month, four waves of Israeli strikes targeted infrastructure in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen, from the ports in al-Hodeidah, to cement factories, power stations and Sanaa International Airport in the Yemeni capital. The strikes caused casualties and heavy damage, but failed to deter the Houthis.
