Hezbollah’s Military Media released on October 15 video footage showing the launch of at least two precision-guided ballistic missiles at the suburbs of the central Israeli city of Tel Aviv a day earlier.

The group identified the missiles used in the attack as Qadir-2, without providing any details about the capabilities of the system.

At the time of the attack, the Israeli Defense Forces said that three “rockets” launched from Lebanon were intercepted by its air defenses over central Israel. Warning sirens sounded in Tel Aviv, its suburbs and nearby settlements. No damage or casualties was reported.

Fighter jets of the Israeli Air Force later targeted and destroyed the launchers used in the attack on Tel Aviv, according to the military.

While the Qadir-2 appears to be a derivative of the Iranian-made Fateh-110 precision-guided short-range ballistic missile, it may also be a precision-guided version of the Iranian Zelzal-2 heavy artillery rocket or its Syrian copy, Maysalun.

Last month, Hezbollah unveiled the Qadir-1 missile, which appeared to be more in line with the general design of the Fateh-110 family of missiles. The missile was used in an attack on the headquarters of Israel’s Mossad spy agency in Tel Aviv on September 25. The full extent of the group’s missile capabilities remains unknown.

The clashes on the Lebanese-Israeli border first broke out after the start of the war in the Gaza Strip, with Hezbollah launching attacks in support of the Palestinian enclave. Israel escalated its attacks on Lebanon starting from September 17 and on September 27 it assassinated the Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Hassan Nassrallah.

The IDF officially announced the launch of a limited ground operation against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon on September 30.
