Hezbollah launched on June 9 a series of attacks against the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in support of the Palestinian enclave of the Gaza Strip and as a response to recent strikes on its heartland, southern Lebanon.

In two separate statements, Hezbollah said its fighters fired a barrage of “Katyusha” rockets at IDF artillery positions in the area of al-Zaoura and attacked the headquarters of an artillery battalion near the settlement of Odem in the Israeli-occupied Syrian Golan Heights with a “squadron” of suicide drones.

The IDF acknowledged that around ten rockets and two suicide drones struck the Golan Heights, sparking large fires. However, there were no reports of casualties by Hebrew media.

Later in the day, Hezbollah announced in four statements that its fighters shelled the sites of Ramtha and al-Samaqa and targeted surveillance equipment in the sites of Birkat Richa and Ruwaisat al-Alam near the Lebanese border using rockets, artillery shells, guided missiles and other weapons.

A series of Israeli strikes killed two fighters of Hezbollah and two civilians in southern Lebanon on June 8. Five civilians were also wounded in the same strikes.

Hezbollah mourned a third fighter on June 9. The group said in a statement that he was killed “on the road to Jerusalem,” its official term for those killed in the ongoing confrontation with Israel. It didn’t clarify when or how he was killed.

Since the outbreak of the Israeli war on Gaza last October, Hezbollah and its allies began launching near-daily attacks against the IDF in support of the Hamas Movement and other armed factions in the Strip.

So far, the border clashes have resulted in ten civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of at least 15 IDF soldiers and reservists. On the Lebanese side, more than 400 people have been killed, including 315 fighters of Hezbollah and at least 80 civilians.
