Four soldiers of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), all women, were wounded in the settlement of Kiryat Shmona near the border with Lebanon on July 13 in a rocket attack claimed by Hezbollah.
In a statement, Hezbollah said its fighters fired dozens of “Katyusha” rockets at Kiryat Shmona in support of the Palestinian people and resistance in the Gaza Strip as well as in response to recent Israeli strikes on its heartland, southern Lebanon.
Earlier in the day, an official from the Hezbollah-allied Shiite Amal Movement was killed in an Israeli strike that targeted the town of al-Khardali.
The IDF said that at least 15 rockets were launched at Kiryat Shmona, with most of them being intercepted by the Iron Dome air defense system. Still, it admitted that falling shrapnel wounded four soldiers, including one seriously. Material losses were also reported.
The rocket attack was one of ten operations targeting IDF sites and Israeli settlements that Hezbollah announced during the day.
In addition, Hezbollah’s Military Media released during the day videos showing recent attacks on the Hadab Yarin site, Zarit barracks and the settlement of Shtula.
In response to Hezbollah’s recent attacks, the IDF said on July 14 that it had struck several targets of the group in southern Lebanon, including a rocket launcher in the town of Rab al-Thalathine, infrastructure in the town of Ayta al-Shaab, an observation post in the town of Odaisseh, infrastructure in the town of Kafr Kila and a building and other infrastructure in the town of Houla.
Following the strikes, Hezbollah mourned one of its fighters, saying in a statement that he was killed “on the road to Jerusalem.”
The clashes on the Lebanese-Israeli border first broke out after the start of the war in Gaza last October, with Hezbollah and its allies carrying out attacks in support of the Strip.
So far, the border clashes have resulted in 12 civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of at least 17 IDF soldiers and reservists. On the Lebanese side, more than 500 people have been killed, including 350 fighters of Hezbollah and at least 90 civilians.
