The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) carried out on July 20 a new wave of strikes against targets of Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.

Israeli fighter jets struck several buildings used by Hezbollah in the town of Houla, the IDF said in a statement, noting that its air defenses also shot down an aerial target suspected to be a drone over southern Lebanon. Video footage of the strikes were released by the military.

Lebanese media also reported that an Israeli strike hit a vehicle near the town of Borj al-Mlouk in southern Lebanon. Four civilians, all of whom are Syrian nationals, were wounded as a result of the strike.

In response to the strikes, Hezbollah said that it launched rockets at the Israeli settlement of Dafna for the first time. Earlier in the day, the group announced that its fighters shelled the IDF’s al-Manara site with artillery in support of the Palestinian people and resistance in the Gaza Strip.

While Hezbollah announced a single rocket attack against Dafna, more launches were reported towards several other settlements in the Upper and Western Galil as well as in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights. The IDF said that a total of 65 rockets were launched from Lebanon, with many being intercepted by Iron Dome air defense systems. Only material losses were reported.

The clashes on the Lebanese-Israeli border first broke out after the start of the war in Gaza last October, with Hezbollah and its allies carrying out attacks in support of the Strip.

So far, the border clashes have resulted in 12 civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of at least 18 IDF soldiers and reservists. On the Lebanese side, more than 500 people have been killed, including 354 fighters of Hezbollah and over 100 civilians.
