Hezbollah’s Military Media has released video footage documenting an attack that targeted the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) Mitat barracks on the border with Lebanon on December 8.
The barracks was targeted with an anti-tank guided missile, most likely the thermobaric version of the Russian-made Kornet or an Iranian copy of it. The missile destroyed much of the barracks and started a fire. Hebrew media reported that two soldiers were wounded.
The Mitat barracks was one of seven IDF positions which were attacked by Hezbollah fighters on December 8. The group said that the attacks were carried out “to support the steadfast Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and in support of their brave and honorable resistance.”
The IDF responded to the attack by launching a series of air and artillery strikes on alleged targets of Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. One of the strikes hit a position of the Lebanese Armed Forces, wounding three soldiers.
A second wave of Israeli strikes hit southern Lebanon early on December 9. The IDF said that an observation post of Hezbollah was hit and released footage of the strikes. The group later said that one of its fighters was killed “on the road to Jerusalem.”
Clashes on the Lebanese-Israeli border first broke out last October after Hezbollah and its allies began launching attacks against the IDF from southern Lebanon in support of Gaza.
So far, the clashes on the Lebanese front have claimed the lives of six IDF troops, four Israeli civilians, 96 fighters of Hezbollah, two fighters from the Lebanese Resistance Brigades, one fighter from the Lebanese Resistance Regiments, seven fighters from the Hamas Movement, six fighters from the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, one Lebanese soldier, 13 Lebanese civilians and another civilian from Syria.
