Hezbollah mourned seven fighters on March 2, as the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) intensified strikes on southern Lebanon.

The group announced the death of the fighters in separate statements, saying they were killed “on the road to Jerusalem,” a phrase used to refer to those killed by the IDF in the border clashes that broke out after the start of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.

Initially, it was reported that three of the fighters were reportedly killed in a drone strike that targeted a vehicle near the town of Naqoura in southern Lebanon.

The IDF later claimed responsibility for the strike, but said that the vehicle was carrying fighters from the Imam Hossein Division, an Iranian-backed force which operates alongside Hezbollah. The fighters were involved in rocket fire on northern Israel recently, the IDF said.

Additionally, the IDF announced that its fighter jets carried out strikes on Hezbollah positions in the town of Labbouneh and two more buildings belonging to the group in the town of Blida last night. Both towns are also located in southern Lebanon.

The Israeli strikes didn’t deter Hezbollah. In two statements, the group said its fighters targeted a newly-established headquarters of the IDF near the settlement of Liman with a suicide drone and targeted a gathering of Israeli troops near the military site of Jal al-Alam with rockets.

Both attacks were carried out “to support the steadfast Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and in support of their brave and honorable resistance,” according to Hezbollah.

Hebrew media didn’t report any casualties. However, the IDF does not usually admit losses caused by Hezbollah on the same day.

The clashes on the Lebanese-Israeli border first broke out after the start of the war in Gaza, with Hezbollah and its allies carrying out attacks in support of the Strip.

So far, the clashes on the border have resulted in six civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of at least ten IDF soldiers and reservists. On the Lebanese side, more than 300 people have been killed, including 216 fighters of Hezbollah and at least 40 civilians.
