On October 11, Hezbollah fired anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs) from southern Lebanon at a post of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) near the town of Arab al-Aramshe in the occupied Shebaa Farms, triggering a response.

In a statement, Hezbollah said the missile attack was a response to the deaths of three members in Israeli strikes two days earlier, which came in response to earlier clashes on the border. The attack caused “a large number of confirmed casualties,” the group claimed.

“The Islamic Resistance reaffirms that it will be decisive in its response to the Israeli attacks targeting our country and the security of our people, especially when these attacks lead to the fall of martyrs,” the statement reads.

The IDF said it carried out strikes in Lebanon in response to the attack but did not immediately provide information on casualties. An combat drone struck a Hezbollah post in southern Lebanon and artillery shelled the source of the missile fire.

Amid the exchange of fire, an incoming rocket siren sounded in Arab al-Aramshe, which the IDF later said it was caused by a false alarm.

Tensions between the IDF and Hezbollah have been mounting since Palestinian armed factions in the Gaza Strip launched Operation Al-Qasa Flood on October 7, killing 1,200 Israelis and wounding some 3,000 others.

Hezbollah praised the large-scale attack and attacked three posts of the IDF on October 8 in support of its Palestinian allies.

On October 9, two fighters from the Palestinian Islamic Jihad raided an Israeli post in Shebba Farms, eliminating three Israeli troops before being killed. Three Hezbollah members were killed in Israel’s retaliatory bombing on southern Lebanon. In an initial response, the group struck two IDF bases with ATGM.

Hezbollah carried out an ATGM attack against an unoccupied IDF armored personnel carrier in the occupied region on October 10. That attack came after 15 rockets were launched from Lebanon at the Western Galilee, causing no injuries. The Gaza-based Hamas Movementer later claimed responsibility for the rocket attack from Lebanon.

The IDF said that it hit three Hezbollah posts in southern Lebanon in response to the rocket fire and missile attack, back then.

Despite threats by the U.S. and attempts to de-escalate by several parties in Lebanon, Hezbollah could launch more attacks against the IDF in coming days. Still, these clashes will not likely escalate into a full-blown war between the two sides.
