Hezbollah escalated attacks against the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) from southern Lebanon on November 17 in support of the Gaza Strip.

The group’s fighters targeted six different gatherings of Israeli troops in al-Talihat Triangle, Ramim barracks and Yaroun settlement as well as near the military sites of al-Dhahira, al-Rahib and al-Marj with “suitable weapons”. An Israeli special forces unit that was situated in al-Manara village forest was also targeted by Hezbollah with “suitable weapons”.

In addition, Hezbollah attacked a large gathering of troops in the vicinity of the al-Matla military site with two suicide drones.

The military sites of Birkat Risha, al-Asi and al-Malikiyah were also shelled by Hezbollah with “suitable weapons”. Moreover, the group’s fighters targeted a main battle tank of the IDF in the vicinity of the 91st “Galilee” Division headquarters in Branit.

Hebrew media reported that four soldiers of the IDF were wounded in the attack, with at least one of them in a life threatening condition.

Hezbollah said in separate statements that the attacks were carried out “in support of the steadfast Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and in support of their brave and honorable resistance.”

Aside from the attacks announced by Hezbollah, the IDF said its troops shot down a suspected armed drone that attempted to target them over the border with Lebanon.

The IDF responded to Hezbollah’s attacks with a series of air and artillery strikes that hit different parts of southern Lebanon. Lebanese media said that artillery shells containing white phosphorus were heavily used. However, no casualties were reported.

Hezbollah and its allies began launching attacks against the IDF following the start of the war in Gaza last month. The continuous clashes on the Lebanese front could quickly escalate into a full-blown war.

As of November 17, the clashes on the Lebanese front have claimed the lives of seven IDF troops, three Israeli civilians, 74 fighters of Hezbollah, two fighters from the Lebanese Resistance Brigades, one fighter from the Lebanese Resistance Regiments, three fighters from the Hamas Movement, four fighters from the Palestinian Islamic Jihad and 16 Lebanese civilians.
