Lebanese Hezbollah and the Palestinian Hamas Movement launched on May 15 dozens of rockets and other projectiles from Lebanon at several bases and sites of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).

In two separate statements, Hezbollah announced that its fighters launched a salvo of Burkan improvised heavy rockets at the headquarters of the IDF’s 91st Division in Pranit barracks and targeted the Mount Meron air traffic control base with tens of rockets and artillery shells.

The attacks were carried out in support of the Palestinian people and resistance in the Gaza Strip as well as in response to a recent assassination by Israel in southern Lebanon, the group said, likely referring to an early morning drone strike near the city of Tyre that killed one of its military commanders.

The IDF admitted later that a barrage of some 60 rockets were launched at Mount Meron base and at least one heavy rocket was launched at the Pranit barracks base.

Several of the rockets were intercepted by the Iron Dome air defense system, while some caused “minor damage,” the IDF said in a statement.

Hezbollah announced in three other statements that its fighters destroyed surveillance systems of the IDF in the al-Radar site using “suitable weapons,” fired rockets at the al-Samaqa site and shelled the Israeli naval site in the coastal area of Ras Naqoura with artillery in support of Gaza. There were no reports of losses in Hebrew media.

Separately, the military wing of Hamas, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, said that its branch in Lebanon launched a large barrage of rockets at the Liman barracks “in response to the continued Zionist aggression and massacres against civilians in patient Gaza.”

The IDF said in a statement that ten rockets were launched during the attack, all of which struck open areas in the Western Galilee causing no injuries.

Since the outbreak of the Israeli war on Gaza last October, Hezbollah and its allies began launching near-daily attacks against the IDF in support of Hamas and other Palestinian armed factions in the Strip.

So far, the border clashes have resulted in ten civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of at least 14 IDF soldiers and reservists. On the Lebanese side, more than 400 people have been killed, including 281 fighters of Hezbollah and at least 70 civilians.
