Hezbollah fired several salvos of rockets from Lebanon at northern Israel on October 19, causing damage and a number of casualties.

In separate statements, the group said that it shelled the Nasher base east of Haifa and the Krayot residential area to the north of the port city, as well as at the city of Safed and the settlement of Rosh Pina to its southeast. It also said that the settlement of Kiryat Shmona and several gatherings of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) close to the Lebanese border were struck.

Video footage released by Hezbollah’s military media showed the group’s fighters launching what appears to be Syrian-made M302 heavy artillery rockets at the Krayot.

The IDF said that over 100 rockets were launched from Lebanon at northern Israel, with some being intercepted by air defenses and others impacting open areas.

Still, Hebrew media reported damage near Haifa and Safed. In addition, a man was killed near the city of Acre, to the north of Haifa, when a rocket landed near his vehicle. At least nine other people were wounded as a result of Hezbollah rocket attacks.

In an apparent response to the deadly rocket attacks, the IDF launched a series of strikes against the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital, Beirut, which is a known stronghold of Hezbollah. It is still unclear if the strikes resulted in any casualties.

The clashes on the Lebanese-Israeli border first broke out after the start of the war in the Gaza Strip, with Hezbollah launching attacks in support of the Palestinian enclave. Israel escalated its attacks on Lebanon starting from September 17 and on September 27 it assassinated the Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Hassan Nassrallah.

The IDF officially announced the launch of a limited ground operation against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon on September 30.

Since the start of the operation, Israeli troops have not yet made any real gains in southern Lebanon and Hezbollah rocket attacks have been increasing.

So far, the confrontation has resulted in 29 civilian deaths in Israel and the occupied Syrian Golan Heights as well as the deaths of at least 43 soldiers and security officers. On the Lebanese side, more than 2,400 people have been killed, including more than 500 members of Hezbollah.
