Lebanon’s Hezbollah fired two salvos of rockets at bases of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights early on April 14.

The group fired the first salvo as Iran was launching hundreds of missiles and drones at Israel in response to the April 1 Israeli strike on the Iranian embassy in the Syrian capital, Damascus. The attack claimed the lives of at least 13 people, including senior commanders from the Guards.

The rocket attack, which targeted the IDF’s air and missile defense command in the Keila barracks, was apparently meant to facilitate Iranian strikes.

The second salvo was fired after the end of the Iranian Strikes. Hezbollah said that Keila as well as the base of Yarden and Nafah in the Golan Heights were targeted.

The attacks were carried out in support of the Palestinian people and resistance in the Gaza Strip as well as in response to recent Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon, the group said in two separate statements.

Hebrew media reported some material losses as after the attacks. Nevertheless, there were no reports of any casualties.

In an initial response to the attacks, the IDF said it struck sites belonging to Hezbollah’s elite Radwan force in the southern Lebanese town of Jbaa overnight. Other buildings used by the group in the nearby towns of Khiam and Kafr Kila were also hit, according to the military.

Later in the morning, Israeli strikes hit the outskirts of the town of Nabi Chit in the Baalbek District of northeastern Lebanon. Footage posted to social media shows smoke rising from a targeted site. There were no reports of casualties.

Baalbek, a Hezbollah stronghold, is located some 100 kilometers from the Israeli border. The IDF struck the district only a few times in recent months.

The clashes on the Lebanese-Israeli border first broke out after the start of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip last October, with Hezbollah and its allies carrying out attacks in support of the besieged Palestinian enclave.

It’s worth noting that the border clashes have so far resulted in eight civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of at least ten IDF soldiers and reservists. On the Lebanese side, more than 400 people have been killed, including 256 fighters of Hezbollah and at least 70 civilians.
