Hezbollah launched on May 19 another wave of attacks against the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) from its heartland, southern Lebanon
In five separate statements, Hezbollah said its fighters shelled the sites of al-Rahib and Jal al-Alam with artillery, fired a barrage of rockets at the Ramtha site and targeted surveillance equipment in the sites of Ramia and al-Malikiyah using “suitable weapons”.
The group announced in another statement that it had destroyed a Humvee armored vehicle of the IDF in al-Malikiyah using a guided missile then shelled with artillery troops who gathered nearby. It claimed that several soldiers were killed or wounded in the attack.
The attacks were carried out “to support the steadfast Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and in support of their brave and honorable resistance,” Hezbollah noted in its statements.
Hebrew media didn’t report any casualties. Still, the IDF announced a series of retaliatory strikes against targets of Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.
Israeli fighter jets struck a building in the town of Maroun al-Ras where Hezbollah fighters were identified, the IDF said in a statement. It added that the fighters were spotted near the building by soldiers of the 869th Combat Intelligence Collection Unit.
Lebanese media didn’t report any civilian casualties. However, Hezbollah mourned one of its fighters, saying that he was killed “on the road to Jerusalem,” its term for those killed by the IDF in the ongoing confrontation.
Since the outbreak of the Israeli war on Gaza last October, Hezbollah and its allies began launching near-daily attacks against the IDF in support of the Hamas Movement and other Palestinian armed factions in the Strip.
So far, the border clashes have resulted in ten civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of at least 14 IDF soldiers and reservists. On the Lebanese side, more than 400 people have been killed, including 285 fighters of Hezbollah and at least 70 civilians.
