On February 21, Hezbollah attacked a number of Israeli settlements and military sites close to the border line with Lebanon.
In six separate statements, Hezbollah said its fighters targeted gatherings of Israeli troops in the site of Marj as well as in the settlements of Even Menachem and Shomera. It also announced an attack on two buildings occupied by troops in the settlement of Avivim and said that its fighters targeted two gatherings in Metulla and shelled the settlement.
The group said in three other statements that its fighters also shelled the military sites of Ruwaisat Al-Alam, Zibdin and Zarit.
The attacks were carried out in support of the Gaza Strip and in response to recent Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon, according to Hezbollah.
In response to the attack, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced that it struck three Hezbollah command centers in southern Lebanon and carried out artillery shelling to “remove threats” in the towns of Alma al-Shaab and Dhayra.
The IDF also said that the 869th Combat Intelligence Collection Unit spotted several Hezbollah fighters entering a building in the town of Yaroun in southern Lebanon a day earlier, and quickly called in an airstrike against it.
Additionally, Lebanese media reported that a woman and a child were killed by Israeli fire in the town of Majdal Zoun in southern Lebanon.
Hezbollah and its allies have been launching attacks from southern Lebanon against the IDF since the outbreak of the war in Gaza.
As of February 21, the clashes on the border have resulted in six civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of at least ten IDF soldiers and reservists. On the Lebanese side, more than 300 people have been killed, including 195 fighters of Hezbollah and at least 40 civilians.
