On February 4, Hezbollah launched a new wave of attacks against the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) from its heartland, southern Lebanon.

In three separate statements, Hezbollah said its fighters targeted the Israeli military sites of al-Marj, Ruwaisat al-Alam and Zabdin with rockets and other “suitable weapons”. The group also announced in another statement that it had struck a gathering of Israeli troops near the site of al-Abad.

Separately, the group said in a fifth statement its fighters targeted two buildings in the settlement of al-Manara using “suitable weapons”.

The attacks were carried out in support of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and in response to recent Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon, Hezbollah said.

In addition to the attacks announced by Hezbollah, a salvo of rockets was launched from southern Lebanon at the settlement of Kiryat Shmona. Some of the rockets were intercepted by the Iron Dome air defense system, while others fell in open areas, according to Hebrew media. There were no reports of casualties or damage. No group claimed responsibility.

The IDF said that it carried out a series of strikes against targets of Hezbollah in southern Lebanon in response to recent attacks.

The targets hit by fighter jets in the towns of Blida and Mays al-Jabal included a rocket launching position manned by Hezbollah fighters, and an observation post, according to the IDF.

The IDF also announced that a tank shelled a Hezbollah cell in Blida and said that it responded to the attack on Kiryat Shmona with artillery fire.

Hezbollah and its allies, including the Hamas Movement and other Palestinian armed factions have been launching attacks from southern Lebanon against the IDF since the outbreak of the war in Gaza.

As of February 4, the clashes on the Lebanese-Israeli border have resulted in six civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of nine IDF soldiers. On the Lebanese side, more than 200 have been killed. The toll includes 168 Hezbollah fighters, 14 of whom were killed in Syria, 28 Palestinians, a Lebanese soldier, and at least 24 civilians.
