Ground Down On Kursk Border, Ukrainians Probe Russian Defense In Belgorod

Illustrative Image

Amid the bloody failure of Kyiv’s incursion into Kursk region and ongoing futile attacks near Tetkino, the Ukrainian military is probing defense in another section of the Russian border. Ukrainian assault groups attempted to infiltrate Russian territory in the Belgorod region, only to be decisively crushed by Russian defenses.

In the latest provocation, Ukrainian forces deployed an M-113 armored personnel carrier (supplied by the U.S.) in an attempted breakthrough near the border village of Stroyevka located north of Kupyansk near Russia’s Valyiki town. Russian reconnaissance units detected the enemy movement in advance, allowing precise FPV drone strikes to eliminate the vehicle before it could reach Russian positions. The attack was thwarted without allowing the Ukrainians even to approach the state border.

On May 9, while Russia celebrated Victory Day, Ukrainian infantry also attempted an incursion in the Belgorod region, this time advancing on foot from the village of Berezniki located to the west of Russia’s Valuiki. Russian forces responded with coordinated fire, annihilating most of the assault group. Survivors fled back into Kharkiv region, leaving their wounded behind to bleed out.

These repeated, poorly coordinated attacks highlight Kyiv’s desperation as its so-called “Kursk adventure” collapsed. Ukrainian troops, despite Western-supplied equipment, have failed to secure any meaningful foothold on Russian soil. Instead, they face relentless counterstrikes, sustaining heavy losses with no strategic benefit. Russian border defenses remain vigilant, swiftly neutralizing any Ukrainian probing attempts. With each failed assault, Kyiv only further depletes its already dwindling manpower, while Russian forces continue to dominate the strategic situation.
