On December 19, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the National Defense Forces (NDF) continued advancing against Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) in the Beit Jinn pocket in southern Syria.
According to pro-government sources, the SAA and the NDF reached the eastern entrance to the village of Maghar al-Mir. However, government forces were not able to enter the village because they failed to capture the nearby height – Tal Marwan (Marwan Hill).
As a result of clashes in Marwan Hill, the SAA and the NDF captured a part of the hill. The fighting is still ongoing in the area.
If government trools take control of Marwan Hill, they will establish a full fire control over Maghar al-Mir and will force the remainig militants to withdraw from the village.
