On May 24, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) repelled a limited attack of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and Jaysh al-Izza on its positions around the village of Zilaqiat in the northern Hama countryside, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
The news agency said that the SAA had responded to the attack by shelling and destroying several positions of the militants in the northern and northwestern Hama countryside.
From its side, Jaysh al-Izzah acknowledged that two its fighters, named “Ahmad Khalaf” and “Mohammad al-Al’awi”, were killed during the clashes with the SAA in the northern Hama countryside.
Syrian opposition sources said that Jaysh al-Izza had shelled the government-held towns of Mahardah and Salhab south of Zilaqiat village with Grad rockets after the failure of its attack. Reportedly, the shelling injured several civilians in these two towns.
According to local observers, the attack is a major violation of the de-escalation agreement in northern Hama.
Following the encounter, the Russian Aerospace Force carried out strikes on militant positions in the villages of Latamina and Kafr Zaita in northern Hama.
