On January 5, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) continued its advance toward the besieged Armored Vehicles Base east of the city of Damascus and captured the al-Bshr Hospital in Harasta district north of the base, according to pro-government sources. Thus, the SAA is deployed within 250 meters from the base.

Pro-government activists reported that the SAA had destroyed Ahrar al-Sham Movement fortifications around the Armored Vehicles Base with dozens of Syrian-made Golan rockets.
From its side, the pro-opposition Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said that the SAA had killed 77 fighters of the Ahrar al-Sham Movement, Faylaq al-Rahman and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) around the Armored Vehicles Base during the last few weeks. The SOHR report confirmed that the attack was conducted not only by Ahrar al-Sham as several Syrian oppositions outlets had claimed.
The Ahrar al-Sham Movement besieged dozens of SAA soldiers and officers inside the Armored Vehicles Base on December 30. The SAA launched a counter-attack to break Ahrar al-Sham siege on January 4. If the counter-attack results in a success, the SAA will likely go on to capture all the district of Harasta.
