A fresh wave of Israeli strikes targeted on May 28 the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, which is controlled by the Houthis (Ansar Allah).

In a brief statement, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said that the strikes hit the airport and an aircraft used by the Houthis “to transport terrorists who advanced terror attacks on Israel.”

“Similar to the ports of Hodeida and Salif that were struck last week, the main airport in Sanaa is routinely operated by the Houthi regime and serves its terror purposes. This is another example of the cruel use made by the Houthi terror organization of civilian infrastructure for terror activities,” the military said.

A total of four strikes targeted the airport’s runway and the last aircraft of the Yemenia carrier, according to the Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV, which didn’t report any casualties.

Videos posted to social networks showed smoke rising from Sanaa International Airport and the wreckage of the Yemenia’s last aircraft.

After the strikes, Defense Minister Israel Katz said the attack was “a direct continuation of the policy we established: Whoever fires at the State of Israel will pay a heavy price,” he says.

“The ports in Yemen will continue to be struck heavily, and the airport in Sanaa will be destroyed again and again, as will other strategic infrastructures in the area used by the Houthi terror organization and its supporters,” Katz continues.

“The Houthi terror organization will be under naval and aerial blockade, as we promised and warned. Anyone who harms us will be harmed sevenfold,” he adds.

The threat was repeated by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who described the Houthis as “just a symptom” of Iran’s influence in the Middle East.

“The main power behind them [the Houthis] is Iran, which is responsible for the aggression emanating from Yemen,” he stated.

The strikes came just a day after the Houthsi launched two ballistic missiles at Ben Gurion Airport and another “vital target” near the city of Tel Aviv in central Israel. Both missiles were intercepted by air defense, according to the IDF. No losses were reported.

The latest wave of strikes on Yemen was the fourth to be carried out by Israel this month. Previous strikes hit infrastructure in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen, from the ports in al-Hodeidah, to cement factories, power stations and Sanaa International Airport. Yet, the group was not deterred.
