Four convoys moving logistic supplies and equipment for the US-led coalition came under attack in southern and central Iraq in the last few days.
On August 12, two supply convoys were simultaneously attacked in the southern province of al-Diwaniyah. The first convoy was targeted near the town of Dagharah, while the second came under attack near the town of Sommer. Both convoys were targeted with improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
The pro-Iranian Islamic Resistance in Iraq – ‘Ashab al-Kahf, which was formed in 2019, claimed responsibility for both attacks.
On August 13, two other supply convoys came under attack. The first convoy was targeted with an IED near the town of Yusufiya to the south of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.
The second convoy came under attack to the north of Baghdad, near the town of al-Moshahda. The pro-Iranian Second 20s Revolution Regiments claimed responsibility for the attack. The group released footage of the attack.
Pro-Iranian forces in Iraq stepped up their attacks on US-led coalition supply convoys in the last few weeks. The coalition is yet to improve its security measures.
The recent attacks indicate that Iran’s allies in Iraq are still unwilling to abandon their demand of a full US withdrawal from Iraq.
