Four troops were wounded late on August 8 when a series of Israeli strikes hit military sites in central Syria, the Syrian Arab News Agency reported, citing a military official.
The unnamed official told the state-run news agency that the strikes also caused “material losses,” without further elaborating.
Earlier, Syrian media reported explosions at the Shayrat Air Base in the eastern countryside of Homs. Video footage posted to social networks showed a series of large blasts close to the base, which was targeted by Israel on multiple occasions in the past.
Israel has significantly escalated its attacks on Syria since the outbreak of the war in the Palestinian enclave of the Gaza Strip, targeting Syrian military sites as well as personnel of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Lebanese Hezbollah and other factions of the so-called Axis of Resistance.
Just a week earlier, Israeli strikes hit a convoy of trucks entering Lebanon from the western countryside of Homs in Syria. A civilian was wounded.
Recent Israeli strikes on Syria claimed the lives of more than 20 civilians. Still, the war-torn country has so far refrained from directly responding in what appears to be an attempt to avoid a dangerous confrontation with Israel.
