At least 15 terrorists were killed on September 29 during a special operation by Egyptian security forces in the Sinai Peninsula.
In an official statement, the Egyptian Interior Ministry revealed that the terrorists, who were taking shelter in the area of al-Obour, were planning several attacks.
“The positions of these terrorists were targeted. However, as soon as they felt the forces approaching them, they opened fire at them, which was dealt with,” the ministry’s statement reads.
In the course of the operation, nine assault rifles, three bomb-action rifles, two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and an explosive belt were seized.

Earlier this week, several Egyptian service members were killed when ISIS cells raided their checkpoint in the northern part of Sinai. The attack was one of the biggest since the beginning of this year.
The new security operation was likely a response to the checkpoint raid. However, it remains unclear if the slain terrorists were responsible for the raid.
