Iraqi resistance groups honored the memory of Iran’s Quds Force Commander Maj. Gen. Qassim Soleimani killed two years ago with an attack at the Camp Victory military base located near Baghdad International Airport.
On January 3, positions of US forces were targeted by two suicide drones. On the wings of the UAVs, the militants wrote “Operation Thaar al-Qada” (Operation Revenge of the Commanders).
The drones packed with explosives were destroyed by the C-RAM (counter rocket, artillery, and mortar) system, victims were reportedly avoided.
This is the first attack by Iraqi resistance groups on US troops in Iraq in 2022.
On December 31, the Ashab Al-Kahf group attacked a US logistical convoy with an RPG-29 in Iraqi Dhi Qar province. On the same day, four 107 mm rockets exploded on the territory of a U.S. military base in the province of Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria.
In November, pro-Iranian forces issued a final warning to the Washington, promising it a heated battle if it does not pull out its troops from the country before the end of December 31. Since the deadline for their ultimatum has expired, pro-Iranian fighters keep their promise and are likely to increase their activity against foreign forces in Iraq.
