U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken visited Kiev on September 8. He did not announce his visit in advance. During his visit, he met with Ukrainian officials. This was Mr. Blinken’s third trip to Ukraine since February 24 and his fifth since becoming chief diplomat in the Joe Biden administration.
During his trip to Kiev, the U.S. foreign minister met with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba. He also visited a children’s hospital in Kyiv, where he talked to some of the patients.
Anthony Blinken’s visit to Ukraine was carried out in strict secrecy, it was not announced in advance. According to Bloomberg, the diplomat arrived in Kiev by train and spent 11 hours on the trip.
The U.S. secretary of state’s trip to Ukraine followed calls by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to establish a safety zone around the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, which has been damaged by shelling and remains under Russian control.
However, according to some reports, one of the purposes of the Secretary of State’s trip to Ukraine is the election race in the United States (elections to the House of Representatives of Congress). The Biden administration, which is already providing large-scale support to Ukraine in the form of arms and finances, plans to use Ukraine also to win the political race inside the country. Americans’ confidence in the incumbent president declines every month. Moreover, points are also being lost in the states where the Democrats traditionally lead.
Republicans and their leader Donald Trump are actively taking advantage of this situation. The “I did it” line is used to blame Biden for the price increases in the country.
