On the night of May 30, the Russian military carried out a strike on the town of Novy Bug in the Ukrainian Mykolaiv region. As a result of the attack, the command post of the AFU operational command “South” was destroyed.
The Russian Ministry of Defence confirmed the strike. It reported that “Rocket troops and artillery hit 62 control points, including the operational command “South” in the area of the settlement Novy Bug in the Mykolaiv region.”
The Kiev’s officials confirmed the attack on the town, without clarifying the target of the Russian strike.
According to unconfirmed reports of the pro-Russian sources, the AFU suffered heavy losses as a result of the attack. About 40 Ukrainian commanders were reportedly killed. The victims reportedly included at least 3 Ukrainian generals and 35 officers of the AFU.
The attack resulted in the destruction of the important communication post of the Ukrainian military. Communications equipment providing control of the AFU on the Mykolaiv – Kherson front lines was destroyed.
The destruction of the command post of the AFU in Mykolaiv is of strategic importance, as the Ukrainian military continues the attempts to counter attack the Russian units along the Mykolaiv-Kherson front lines.

At the same time, the Ukrainian military command is expected to continue the attempts to break through the Russian defences in the region. The new counterattacks are expected from the AFU positions in the northern direction, from the cities of Krivoy Rog and Nikopol, where the accumulation of Ukrainian armored vehicles and artillery continues.
